This is an extract from the memories of A.R.(Toni) Clare who writes every month in the Marshland Mardler about the life of Upton in the past. |

| On the Green, The Broadlands, the home of the Waters family. I cannot remember Squire Waters, only his wife. It was said that the three taxodium trees on the side of the drive were each planted as the three sons were born. At one time behind the house was a football field used by the Upton Football club and most of the houses, cottages and land in the village belonged to the estate. I can remember taking the rent for my parents' house round to Mrs. Waters once a month. What I can remember most about the family were the beautiful fast ponies they had for driving out and about. How I would have loved to go for a drive. | ||

Not sure when this would have been ... how old do these trees look ??? |
